STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- When Ivana Trump was leading a remodel of the Plaza Hotel in the early 1980s, she purposefully incorporated some of the posh property’s pricey gold leaf, elegant chandeliers and stately crown moldings into her own lavish mansion in Greenwich, Conn.

She was 33 years old, her husband Donald was 35, and together they turned their “starter home” into a lavish estate fit for a king.

Ivana died on July 14 in her New York City apartment, and her first mansion, which has changed hands numerous times since the Trumps’ divorce, is now garnering renewed attention in the days since her death. Its regal décor and overall opulence has been cited as a perfect example of how the extravagant socialite lived her life.

According to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, the grand home, situated on 5.8 acres, was originally built in 1939 for Robert Hillas, president of the Super Heater Company in New York City. The 19,773-square-foot Georgian Colonial main house and guest house have eight bedrooms, 13 baths, a three-story rotunda foyer with double-grand staircase, the website reports, plus formal rooms and views of Long Island Sound. The home also includes a home theater, putting green, multiple terraces and patios, tennis courts and three fully equipped staff apartments.

The mansion was most recently put on the market in 2018 by new owners for $45 million, later reduced to $38.5 million, and then taken off the market.
