My detailed 2019 review of the Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere is still very much relevant, but I wanted to offer a short update on how the hotel is maturing and what you can expect during your next visit, particularly if you are assigned an Andaz Suite. Suite Review: Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere

I spent one night here in transit on my way from Vienna to the USA. Nightly rates were only about 125EUR, which is a good price for Vienna. We took the RJX train from the airport to the city, which was easy. Exit at Vienna Central T (Wien Hauptbahnhof) and it’s a short walk to the hotel.

I’ve lamented before that the location of this hotel is not at all prime like the Park Hyatt, but if you’re okay with that, this hotel represents a very good value for a full service hotel.

While rooms have espresso machines, it’s nice to have 24/7 access to free espresso and water in the lobby.

I was assigned room 1422, one floor above the suite I stayed in during my prior visit (with the suite upgrade coming from my World of Hyatt Globalist status). While not a huge suite, it is well-appointed and comfortable, with a sitting area and desk in the living room, a plush bed in the bedroom (and really no room for anything else), and a bathroom with tub and separate shower.

A guest toilet and walk-in closet are located just inside the room.

Interestingly, probably due to the pandemic, bathroom toiletries (from Culti) were in individual containers rather than communal bottles like my prior visit.

The coat hangers in the bathroom bear the image of Sigmund Freud.

My view from the room was of train tracks:

Thermostat and lights are easily controlled on the wall.

The mini-bar was empty, though coffee and tea was provisioned. A welcome note with some sweets was sitting on the desk.

I had a cocktail with my friend up in Aurora, the rooftop bar. The bar was hopping and we had to sit inside because all terrace seats were occupied…and this was only happy hour at around 5:00PM!

Let me jump right to breakfast in Eugen21. The truffle scrambled eggs were some of the best eggs I have ever enjoyed. The whole buffet spread was of tremendous quality and I enjoyed some salad and cheese between helpings of eggs. I found the coffee and orange juice (fresh-squeezed) also excellent. Indoor and outdoor seating is available.

Finally, I did make time to use the hotel’s wellness facilities (sauna, steam room) which are very nice.

As for fitness, there is a 24/7 gym. For this visit, I chose to walk outdoors into the city and back for my exercise.

I still prefer the Park Hyatt over the Andaz, but the much more reasonable pricing here and superb accommodations make this a very compelling choice. I look forward to returning.

If this is an “aging” hotel, it seems to be doing so in a very graceful way. On the serious side, was there much in the way of covid restrictions left regarding the hotel, or have such basically disappeared?

Perhaps “maturing” is a better word. The hotel is still young.

My stay was last summer and already the COVID restrictions were gone. No one even worse masks (unlike in Germany or Switzerland).

As I get older, I’ll have to remember I am really just “maturing” not aging. Thanks much. LOL

If you return you could consider walking across Arsenalstraße to visit the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum – the Austrian Military Museum. It c0vers hundreds of years of military events, but is worth visiting just for the room containing (1) the Graf und Stift limousine Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were riding in when shot in Sarajevo, (2) the sofa he was lying on when he died, and (3) the uniform he was wearing including a little cardboard arrow pointing to the bullet hole.

Normally I stay at one of the central Hiltons/Marriott Bonvoy hotels (as I have a Diamond/Titanium status), but I’ve been keen to try this hotel for a while. No status with Hyatt, but I’ve booked it via travel agent (Hyatt Prive).

Uncanny timing. I’m literally writing this from a room a few floors directly below your room. It looks identical, though I switched one of the chairs with the desk, so I’d have a better view while working. Agree with everything you wrote. The staff has been outstanding, as have both room service and breakfast. The location is convenient to both the city center and the Messe. I might lean toward the Park Hyatt if I were here on vacation, but for business, the Andaz is ideal. It’s on par with my favorite Andaz (Amsterdam) and miles ahead of my least favorite, the Andaz Middle Age Party Palace in Savannah.

We just stayed here on 5 night award stay. I burnt points and booked a Premium suite because 2 out of 5 days I need to work and did lots of conferences lasting into the early morning (Pacific time), so the living room space really made a difference. The only Premium suites they made available is the Deluxe suite facing the Arsenal. I think this is a really good value for what we get, especially with Globalist status. The hotel was busy – 2 conferences happening at the same time there for 2 days – so lots of people come and go. No one wore mask anymore.

The 2 hiccups for us were (1) the breakfast sitting arrangement, where on day 1 where the table that we originally picked were labeled as reserve then we saw a German family came in and was able to be seated there, and it was apparent that they did not reserve that table, and (2) we did laundry and asked for the clothes to be hung and placed on plastic sleeve and they did not do it because they were going to charge 20 Euro for the sleeves and they were not sure if we wanted to pay that charge. They could’ve just asked us but they did not.

Location is not a bother really. We walked from old town back to the hotel, and the walk was really pleasant, passing TU Wien, Karlskirche and Belvedere palace. The street by Belvedere is interesting since it’s like Embassy Row. We played a game of guess the country all the way by looking at the flag.

For 5 night stay on a huge Deluxe suite, I spent 96K Hyatt points, which is not bad.

Breakfast was good. One server ~ forgot the name ~ older gentlemen among younger girls, alway greeted us and pro-actively offered things from the menu, and always ready with coffee.

There is a restaurant in the park across from the hotel, near the Arsenal, which is a little pricey ~ we spent more here vs eating at old town ~ but the food is good. Taffelspitze, Schnitzel, Goulash …. good Austrian dishes. For quicker options ~ the station is a few minutes walk away and awash with fast food. The corporate campus next to the hotel has a couple of bistros too. Too bad that the Cyclo cafe in the hotel is still closed.
